During the latest uprisings by the people of many Arab states; People of Palestine were in a leading position to people of other Arab states. Palestinians went out to streets expressing their stolen rights since 64 years; “Al-Nakbah Anniversary” in which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians was obliged to their homes and lands. It was the same time when Israel declared its establishment on the Palestinian land on mid of May, 1948.
On the basis of United Nations Resolution it was supposed to establish State of Palestine, but different wars that took place through Arab-Israeli conflict such as 1967 war, in which Israel occupied West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and other Arab lands, obstructed the implementation of resolution.
The US president Barack Obama mentioned, in his different speeches on Middle East, the necessity of making a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East and solving the Palestinian cause. He declared the bases of peace including resolutions of international legitimacy which reassure ending the Israeli occupation to Arab lands on the bordering lines of 1967.
The international attention to make a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East was represented in the French suggestions to hold International Peace Conference on Middle East. It is important to shed the light on the content of the suggestions; they call for resumption of direct talks between Palestinian and Israeli sides. The French suggestions based on what the US president Obama reassured including to be on the basis of 1967 bordering lines, two-state solution. At the same time it is important to read the French suggestions carefully which includes that two-state solution means two states for two people; this can be understood as recognition of
Israel as a Jewish State. The suggestions also included the refusal of one-sided measures which means the refusal of Israeli settlement expansion policy and refusal of the Palestinian efforts in the United Nations to recognize State of Palestine. Israel declared its concerns on the French suggestions while the Palestinian Authority welcomed and accepted the French suggestions.
Arab states reassured their support the Palestinian plan to introduce the recognition of State of Palestine during the discussions in UN General Assembly meeting. Many former Israeli academic and military figures as well as political, social, and cultural figures supported the Palestinian plan by requesting the United Nations to issue a resolution that recognizes Palestinian state.
The concern of Israel towards the French Peace suggestions, with respect to an international conference, as it was considered by Israelis as internalization of the cause. We can refute the Israeli concerns by saying that both sides, Palestinians and Israelis, accepted the role of the Quartet so discussing peace process is not limited only to Palestinian and Israeli sides. Fifty states and concerned parties of a just and sustainable peace in the Middle East participated in Annapolis Conference in 2007 which made the concerns on internalization of the cause meaningless.
We conclude by saying that the French suggestions to hold an international conference to resume peace talks between the Palestinian and Israeli sides should not cancel the Palestinian plan to go request the UN General Assembly to recognize and meet the Palestinian demands including the recognition of an independent state on the bordering lines of 1967.
